Sorry to break the news, but you are not a fundraising expert.  I don’t care how long you have been doing this, you just aren’t.  The reason I know this is because I have been taking your advice for years.  I’ve been implementing every best practice, every proven strategy, every new technology that you have thrown my way—and I’ve found out over and over again that you are wrong.

But more importantly, I have found out that I am wrong.  And I’m okay with that.

That’s because I’ve learned an all too important truth—I am not my ideal donor.  And neither are you.

So instead of taking your expert advice, I’m going to do a better job of listening to the true experts on the matter—my donors.

That’s why I’m obsessed with testing.  I’ve given up trying to guess my way to better results.  And I’m bored of sitting around boardrooms listening to a dozen other people like me trying to figure it out.  No, I’m going to take my ideas directly to the people that really matter—my donors—and I’m going to allow them to vote for what they think is best with their dollars.
